Yay for Saturday!

First, let's backtrack a bit and say "Yay" for Thursday!! And why is that, you may ask? (And certainly with good reason -- there's never been a yay for Thursday before!) Because for the month of December, Turner Classic Movies' Star of the Month is William Powell!! Yippee Ki Yi Yay! (oh! there's that "yay" again!)

Loyal readers of this lofty blog will no doubt recall that William Powell is one of my all-time favorite movie stars. And if we want to get morbid (and more specific) about it, we phrase it: he is my all-time favorite dead movie star -- since everybody knows I have an all-time favorite living movie star. Followed by Rudolph Valentino, of course, in the dead category. Okay, we can get even more specific here and say that William Powell is my all-time favorite dead movie star from the era of talking pictures (which is, you know, still enjoying a lengthy run). Rudolph Valentino is, of course, my all-time favorite dead movie star from the Silent Era.

(Yes, folks, you did just spend a precious and irretrievable few moments of your fleeting life reading that paragraph above!)

Okay, so, to re-cap: On Thursday nights throughout December, you can watch William Powell movies all night long on TCM. And it started this past Thursday, so I was in heaven, gang. Not that I watched them all night long but I had that DVR working overtime! (Okay, I'll say it: "Yay!")

Moving along...

The reason this post is all about "Yay for Saturday" is not because I don't have to go to school today (although I probably should go so that they can drill that double-negative out of me!); it's because starting today, Saturdays from here to eternity will be my reading days. This means that if you have submitted a manuscript of any kind to me -- whether it's for consideration in SomethingDark.eu, or for the Red Lemonade publishers, or for the Black Marks Literary Award, or whether you work with me locally on a writing or publishing project, I will be reading your manuscript on Saturday.

I have determined that this is the only way to keep some sort of sanity in my schedule. I'm kind of looking forward to it, frankly. Because it will also involve not sitting at my desk. It will involve an eReader that I can take with me to my couch. Or to one of my couches, since I have two. Or it might even involve sitting in a recliner, of which I also have two, but I doubt it. I think it is more likely going to involve the all-out sloth of lying on the couch. (And I don't mean that I will be sitting on the couch, telling lies. I mean that I will be laying myself upon it!)

In all seriousness, though, I am really looking for structure right now in my schedule in an effort to ensure that nothing falls through the cracks -- including my sanity.

I learned this idea of a reading day from my agent. Her reading day is always Friday. This means that if you don't get your proposal, synopsis, rewrites, or manuscript to her by Thursday night, you are not on the Friday reading pile for the week and her phones (cell, office, home phone) go straight to voice mail, so it is useless to call and plead with her to add you to that Friday pile on Friday because she ain't gonna take your call.

Man, you have no idea how incredibly not like my life that is!! But it's all about to change, gang. I'm going to get rigid and ruthless about Saturdays, starting today. (Sing it with me, gang: "Yay, Yay, Yay, for Saturday!!!")
