Of Mice & Men
No, I'm not writing about John Steinbeck today. (Although, just for the record, I've read 5 of his novels and really the only one I liked was East of Eden. However, I seriously liked that one. I thought it was phenomenal & couldn't put it down.)
What I am writing about today is how often the best laid plans of mice & men go astray. Can you believe I am still working on the formatting of the Kindle edition of the new novel? I thought I'd get the whole kit & caboodle finished yesterday but au contraire!! Instead, what I had was computer problems all day yesterday and it made me completely insane.
Sometimes you have to just surrender to it and say to yourself: "All right, this is simply how the day is going to go. Let go of that idea that you're spending the whole day finishing up the formatting & coast with this new agenda." But I didn't get around to surrendering to that idea until 4 PM, so I spent most of the day feeling exasperated and going: "WTF!!! What is happening to my day???? Damn it!!"
However, in the words of the inimitable S.E. Hinton: "That was then, this is now." (Jesus Christ, I loved her books when I was 12; didn't you? She only had 2 books out at that point -- That Was Then, This Is Now, and The Outsiders -- but I absolutely devoured them.) Anyway.
Today I am leaving yesterday behind and going off on a little road trip! It is the most perfect weather for it; I just can't believe how glorious it is. Low 50s, only getting up to about 60 degrees (Fahrenheit). Sunny, sunny, sunny! Just perfect.
So at some point later in the weekend, I might try to get that Kindle formatting completed. We'll see. I'm learning how to "let go." (Why is it I'm always learning how to let go? It seems like everybody else gets to just hold on to stuff and have a pretty decent life; year in, year out... Oh well, guess I have to let go of wondering about that, as well. Just throw it on to the heap of stuff I'm learning how to let go of.)
