Continued lapses in my visitations!

Sorry. Now that Bill's gone back to the West Coast, you'd think I could pop in here more regularly. However, I am still judging the Global eBook Awards; still studying DVDs of made-for-TV, Emmy-Award-winning movies from the 70s & 80s (that may or may not star Cicely Tyson but generally do); still attempting to become utterly bilingual in the French language before Oct. 4th at 6:45 AM (when my plane lands at Charles de Gaulle airport); still preparing lesson plans for the workshop I start teaching on Tuesday night; still trying to promote my newest novel Twilight of the Immortal (which is ON SALE RIGHT NOW at Amazon for $23, gang!!);still cleaning, doing laundry, running errands, feeding birds & squirrels & chipmunks & rabbits & cats (!!), etc., etc., etc.

So, no, I haven't forgotten about you, I just have very little brain power left after all that other stuff is attended to.

(Oh -- here's another reason why I love the library! (See my previous post about the library open-mindedly refusing to carry my novel strictly b/c the publisher is a POD press.) I dashed in there yesterday to pick up yet another DVD of an Emmy-Award-winning TV movie from 1999 this time that, to my complete astonishment, also includes Cicely Tyson in the cast!! What is with her? Does she star in everything on TV that calls for a frail-but-spiritually-towering African-American woman?? Not that I have anything against her. I met her once, briefly, in NYC and she was funny and dignified and gorgeous. Anyway, I dashed into the library and saw that the flyer for my upcoming workshop had been removed. Apparently it was thumb-tacked to the wrong bulletin board. So I checked the right bulletin board -- just on the other wall, mind you -- and rather than politely moving my flyer to the right bulletin board, the librarian had simply thrown my flyer away. What is with people? So hostile for no reason. It's not as if the librarian would have had to trudge five floors up and 17 aisles over -- just to the other wall. Jesus. Anyway, luckily, I carry flyers in my glove compartment along with thumb tacks! Yay!!) (Continued proof that I wasn't born yesterday, gang! Clearly, I expect to be thwarted at every turn & I'm prepared!!) (Just kidding. I actually expect miracles and I usually get them.)

Well, before I forget, I have to highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend the DVD, Backstairs at the White House. It's a 4-part, TV mini-series from 1979 about the White House staff from 1909 to 1961, told through the eyes of a mother and daughter who were maids there (a true story). It was so well done, gang -- and you actually learn a lot about American history and the history of the private lives of 8 Presidents and their families. Gosh, it really was good. I couldn't believe I hadn't seen it before. I can recall 1979 really clearly and I know I owned a TV. However, I also remember a ton of cocktails, a healthy amount of recreational drug use, discos (yes!!), ambidextrous guys & gals and more than my share of transvestites, etc., etc. Perhaps I didn't have time for a 4-part mini-series about the staff of the White House from 1909 to 1961...

Anyway, if you enjoy American history, great acting, a slice-in-time look at Black people who lived in the 20th Century, and great writing, then check out Backstairs at the White House.

Okay. On a sad note... word over at Deadline Hollywood is that Disney has dropped plans to make the new Lone Ranger movie that was supposed to star Johnny Depp as Tonto. I hope those comments I made back in December, about Johnny Depp planning to play Tonto as gay, wasn't what caused Disney to nix the project!! Just kidding, of course. Apparently it's a budget issue. Crap. The economy must really be in peril if the world-owning Disney nixes a movie that would star Johnny Depp -- the same star that earned Disney hundreds of millions -- or is it billions? -- of dollars over the last 6 or 7 years. Well, I'm guessing that somebody is finally going to make that movie and then it'll be a smash hit all over the world. (Even if I, personally, have to go out there and see it 1 billion times!!)

Okay, then. Happy Saturday, gang! I hope you have a good one wherever you are and whatever you plan on doing!! Don't let it upset you that I will be here slaving away and working really hard while you're out having fun! I want you to have fun. Really! Don't worry about me!! I'll manage. I'll get by. I will muddle through. Thanks for visiting, gang!! See ya!

[Okay, well, the Lone Ranger does in fact look gay here, but Tonto is so totally not gay!]
