Good morning, boys & girls!!
You [with profound enthusiasm & joy]: "Good morning, Mrs. Lewis!!"
(When I first got engaged, in October 1992, to be married to Wayne Lewis, and realized I was then going to become "Mrs. Lewis," it sounded to me like the name of someone's 1st grade teacher or something like that. Hence, "Good morning, Mrs. Lewis!" -- the "exclamation point" signifies the enthusiasm of eager 6-year -old children.) (After Wayne & I got divorced, I kept my married name because, a.) I really liked the name; b.) all my more popular books & short stories were written under that name all over the world; and c.) depending on my mood, I could still tell people I was a distant cousin of Jerry Lewis, or Jerry Lee Lewis, or Daniel Day Lewis. I get a lot of "pleasure miles" out of totally stupid stuff like that.)
Okay, okay! I've been missing in action for a few days here. Mostly because my brain has been set on stun and got stuck in that position. I think it's b/c it got sort of hot around here -- upper 90s, super sunny; the kind of weather that immediately shuts down most of my primary brain-functions and my entire Mental Being shifts into reserve power.
But today -- well, it's going to get hot again today, but I had the AC on all night, I slept great, it's cool and lovely right at this moment, so my brain has joined me, at least for now.
Okay -- countdown to Bill Brent's arrival!! His possessions have been steadily arriving at my house via parcel post for several days! How exciting! Less than a week now and he will be here. Don't forget that if you live in the San Francisco area, Bill will be reading at the Make-out Room in the Writers with Drinks series, this Saturday, July 9th. I believe the Make-Out Room is on Valencia Street but I'm not positive.
After that, he will be reading here at my house -- but hopefully he will be reading quietly; to himself, as it were! (Yes, I know!! I used that word "hopefully" incorrectly. I, too, have studied Strunk & White's The Elements of Style! But for some reason, I have never been able to make myself stop using the word "hopefully" in all the wrong ways. Perhaps I am simply too hopeful, in general, and so it just comes out willy-nilly.)
On the Black Marks Literary Award front -- M. Christian and I are in the process of drawing up the final Rules & Regulations and then we will officially announce the Award and open up the first competition. I believe (but don't quote me on this), the first award will be for Best Unpublished Science Fiction Novel. (So if you have a really GREAT unpublished science fiction novel, please don't publish it! Send it to us instead!! Yay! We will give you prize money and also publish it, if you want to be published, that is!) (And what do we get from this, you're likely asking?? Why, another opportunity to spend a ton of money on PR! What could be better than that, gang???) (No, actually, we like discovering new talent. In fact, we love discovering new talent.)
All right, the little time-indicator on my laptop is telling me that I gotta scurry here, gang. So scurry, I shall! I hope this happy Thursday finds you eagerly awaiting another great weekend! Thanks for visiting. See ya, gang!
