Everything New!!
Do you ever go through phases where you just want to try everything new? Or just do things differently than you usually do them; or put your "decision" mechanism on hold and purposely make a new decision about something?
I'm in one of those phases and I'm eager to see where it all goes. So far, so good!
The past couple mornings have been very interesting, movie-wise. I have a stack of movies that Mike bought me several years ago that I have never watched b/c they are all action flicks and I'm rarely in the mood for that. But aside from the current story research stuff (see some sort of post below from a couple weeks ago), I've been feeling like watching these movies that Mike bought me that I never watched.
First, I saw Minority Report and loved it. How weird is that? That movie is almost 10 years old already! There were several times during the watching of it that I got bored and literally turned it off and said, "I don't think so...." but then I'd turn it back on and stick with it, and by the end, I really loved it. I said, "Marilyn, make a note of this. Choose new reactions to the same-old, same-old and see where it winds up taking you."
It doesn't always work. Sometimes I just give up on a movie and move to something else. But, shocker of all shockers, this morning, Fluffy and I watched Mr. & Mrs. Smith, which Mike had bought me for Christmas in, like, 2005 or so(?). And as most readers know, I'm not a big fan of Angelina or Brad Pitt, and I'm not crazy about action, etc., etc., and even Mike had watched it and said he didn't like it and he loved action, so I never watched it. But I am incapable of getting rid of movies, b/c I love movies. So this morning, in keeping with doing everything in a new way. Fluffy and I watched Mr. & Mrs. Smith and loved every single freakin' minute of that movie!! It was so fun!! Really -- I laughed a lot! It was so cute!
Well, yesterday afternoon, I was super wiped out. I did the unthinkable: got back into my jammies, got in bed with Fluffy and yakked on the phone with Valerie (my long-time muse in Brooklyn) for 2 1/2 hours! Yay!! How fun!! We hadn't spoken much since before Christmas b/c she was recovering from surgery, etc., etc.
Sometimes I guess I do know how to "not work."
Oh, here's a head's up -- If you ever liked Eddie Van Halen at all, even the tiniest bit, you might want to skip Sammy Hagar's piece in the current Rolling Stone; "Surviving Van Halen." That I definitely couldn't finish. It was just gross and so disheartening.
I don't know, gang, I really believe there are some things that we just don't need to know. Not that I think we should live in the past (regardless of what I'm always saying -- usually I'm just kidding), but there really are some things I'd like to remember just the way (I thought) they were, and Eddie Van Halen is one of them.
[Eddie, 1983; "If they could just stay little until their Carter's wore out!" Sigh.]
