Who knew???

That it was a state law that you had to turn in all your tax paperwork to your tax guy before you were allowed to see Rango ???

I only found out about this yesterday. (This is what they told you, right?? That before you could see Rango on Friday, all your papers had to be ready for the tax guy?? They explained it to me as part of the "vegetables before dessert" rule -- which also turns out to be a state law: you have to eat your vegetables before you can eat your dessert. Who fucking knew??? All this time, I thought it was just a sort of informal guide to better eating or something like that. But, no, it's an actual law. Anyway.)

Oh, okay. It isn't a state law, or anything. But now the only thing that stands between me and Rango Day is finally getting all my tax papers into some sort of discernible order and have them all ready to hand over to my cousin when I pick her up tomorrow to go see the movie. (Her husband, as luck would have it, is my accountant! Yay!)

For some reason, last year, I was too distracted by life's insanity to keep my tax stuff organized. I usually am intensely anal about stuff like that. The little accordion folder with the months separated and all the receipts getting filed chronologically; and another little accordion folder for expenses, filed chronologically, and everything entered into a ledger, day by day, month by month, so that all I have to do on February 1st is get out the calculator, do some math, and then lickety-split, all the totals are ready for the tax man!

But sadly, for 2010 what I have is a plastic grocery bag bursting to the gills with receipts. Plus, now I have 2 separate businesses. I said to the Tax Guy (who had the foresight to marry my cousin 30-some years ago),  "Can't you just pretend it's all one business and sort of just scrunch everything up together under one thing?" To which he replied:

"No."

Ack. What good is it to know people in high places if they're just going to treat you like you're everybody else???

Okay!! Well!!

The good news is that my cousin's surgery went off without a hitch yesterday. Well, at least that was the word before the pain meds wore off. I guess we'll get a better idea today of how it really went. But that aside, I am dragging her off to the movies tomorrow regardless! And to lunch!! Which is almost just as important!!

Oh happy day!! On that note, I'm outta here, gang! Have a great day, wherever you are and keep counting those blessings, folks! I sure do. It's the only way I know for sure that they're adding up!! See ya.
