I had the best dream
No, not in the Martin Luther King way, but more in the "it's all about me and isn't it fantastic" way!
First of all, Jerry and I continue to get the best feedback on our screenplay -- and it isn't even finished yet. Yesterday we had another producer in L.A. tell us it was really good and that we "had him at page 2" and he passed it on to a director. Jerry & I were, like, "Fuck, yes!!" Although to be honest, Jerry doesn't use the "F" word, but you get the picture. So we keep writing and we have quite a few more story ideas in the queue after this one and it is all just so much fun and so exciting.
I also got the contract on the Valentino novel and really loyal readers of this lofty blog -- going back to before it was an actual blog, per se, and was just me posting weekly comments on my web site -- anyway, the Valentino novel became a passionate flame in my heart in the summer of 2000, when I was lucky enough to spend a couple hours in Valentino's old home in Beverly Hills (before they tore it down three years later -- the fuckers!!) and I fell under Valentino's spell. So this is eleven years, gang. Eleven years and now it is finally a done deal and the novel is going to see the light of day.
It feels like rapture. Nothing less.
I believe that in dream imagery, the houses or dwellings we're in (in the dreams) reflect the states of our consciousness. And last night, I had the best dream. I was living in this enormous house and it was filled with people I loved. I was having a huge party and the house was full of really happy people, having a great time. I was with a man that I really loved, too; really loved -- he was married and his wife was at the party, too, but I just didn't care anymore. I wanted to be out in the open with him (it was my party, finally; you know???) The guy was Don Draper, from Mad Men!! And of course his wife was Betty Draper, and she was there at the party in this pretty white dress, ignoring us being so publicly in love. (So, am I in love with a mad man?? With fame? With pop culture? With television???)
Anyway, the guy I was in love with stopped being "Don Draper" but I don't remember who he became, he just became a male presence and we were totally in love and we were all over this party I was having in this huge house that had all this great furniture.
In "real life" yesterday, another one of my long-lost nieces got in touch with me through facebook -- I couldn't believe how pretty she was and how much she'd grown. She's in college already which I find dumbfounding. Anyway, a couple weeks back, my other long-lost niece, my half-brother's daughter, got in touch with me on facebook and she & I texted each other all day while she was in school. (She's fifteen.) But she popped up in my dream last night, but like she was back when she was 4 -- the last time I actually saw her.
Well, in the dream last night, the guy I was with, lifted the back of my niece's shirt and said, "Look, she has a rash in the shape of a calendar!" And sure enough, she had what looked like chicken pox on her back and it perfectly formed not only a calendar, but also a map -- I think it was of the United States. Sort of like that old Dick Van Dyke TV show episode, where Dick has a bunch of freckles on his back and when Laura & Millie connect the freckles with a pen, it forms the shape of the Liberty Bell?? Remember that episode??? Sure you do!!! Otherwise you wouldn't be such a loyal reader of this lofty blog!!!)
Anyway, it was just a really cool dream. I felt so in control of my world; so full and so happy.
We are tentatively planning on celebrating the sale of my Valentino novel with champagne and perhaps some sort of tasting menu here . When I say "we" I probably don't mean you, alas -- I mean my mom and my cousin and her husband. Sorry to get your hopes up! But "we" meaning you this time, can celebrate all over again somewhere else if you want to! Just email me!!)
Okay. Gotta go take a look at this amazing ice storm we're having here! Then get to work. See ya in the funny papers, gang! Thanks for visiting!!
