Great movie weekend!
All on Turner Classic Movies, since I was overloaded with writing projects and couldn't really leave the house...
But James Cagney in the Mayor of Hell , from 1933. Fantastic!! I totally loved it. There's something about early James Cagney, his early 1930s stuff; he is just so magnetic. You can't take your eyes off him. He seems to kind of glow from inside. The movie was a bit like Angels with Dirty Faces, but not as powerful, still it was a very engaging film with some terrific child actors.

I also finally got to see a classic from the Silent Era, Broken Blossoms, 1919. Lillian Gish, Richard Barthelmess, the creepy Donald Crisp, and directed by D.W. Griffith. Brutal movie; violent, tragic, incredibly sad. But it is also really good. It deals with racism, child abuse, ignorance, poverty. D.W. Griffith worked with some incredible themes.

And, in a completely different vein, Page Miss Glory . I love that movie!! It's so totally ridiculous. From 1935. An endless stream of fantastic contract players from that era. Frank McHugh, Patsy Kelly, Allen Jenkins. It stars Marion Davies, Pat O'Brien, Dick Powell, and Mary Astor. But the contract players are just as good as the stars. It's so fun! Plus, it has a great theme song. Something like: when the moon is new, I make a little wish or two, and when I want them to come true, I page Miss Glory...

All righty! Today promises to be splendid. Why? Because it's going to include one of those 3-hour lunches I have with my cousin. This time, we're meeting for Mexican food.
And, of course, it's snowing again... What could be more auspicious?? So I will scoot now and get things crackin'!!
Have a great Monday, gang! Thanks for visiting!!
