what a morning
Days like today are shall we say, very discouraging?
I woke late, over an hour -- at 6AM, but in a good mood. Although I had had strange dreams about buying a ton of eye make-up -- all different kinds. Strange kinds, some that were more like watercolor paints. And I got sort of mesmerized by all this stuff even though I had a lot of housecleaning to do before the guys came to replace my furnace (that's happening today). So they showed up (in the dream) and I had shit everywhere. I mean, nothing at all like how my house really is. But in the dream, I was really confounded as I was showing the repairmen where the furnace was. I was telling them in this weird bewildered & embarrassed way, "Wow, I had no idea things had gotten this bad."
But so I got up & started feeding the cats only to discover Fluffy in all kinds of peril, bleeding profusely from her mouth and not wanting me to even touch her, so she hid under the bed, etc., etc. And I tried to just stay calm b/c I didn't want to make it worse, but I'm thinking either she's going to die or I'm going to have a huge vet bill that I can't really afford right now. Finally, she comes out from under the bed and goes right to her food bowl and starts wolfing down her food in a very strange way.
Long story short, she had gotten some of her fur caught around one of her lower teeth. This happens a lot during the winter. Her fur is very thick & long this time of year and when she's grooming herself, sometimes the hair tangles up in her mouth & I usually have to untangle it for her while she struggles like crazy to get away. But this time, she had struggled so hard with it on her own that she yanked out her own tooth.
Now she only has 3 teeth! I don't know how she's going to manage this. Yet, she wolfed down an entire bowl of dry cat food and hasn't thrown it back up yet. And now she seems content as a little clam.
Other news
All the Lammy nominations are in and I have been so hoping that this would be the year I finally move to the finalist phase in those awards. I've had several nominations over the years but never finaled. I did have a story in an anthology that finaled once but didn't win.
Now I see I'm up against Jim Carroll and Bret Easton Ellis (and myself, in an anthology). Like I have a hope in Hades now. But onward.
On a good note...
The King's Speech was fantastic. What an enjoyable movie.
