Pie-baking at 4:08 -- A.M. Isn't Xmas great????

What is it about Christmas that even though you plan everything out very sanely in your head, you're still getting up at 4:08 in the morning on Christmas Eve to get the pie baked in time???

It's only b/c the pie has to be really cold when you put the whipped cream on it or it doesn't taste right. To me, anyway.  Yesterday, I had all the ingredients sitting out all day, coming to room temperature. Then after cleaning for 6 hours, I was , like, well, let me just read over this version of the synopsis that Jerry just sent b/c he needs a reply, then I'll bake the pie. Then: Well, let me just practice the piano real quick so that I can regale mom on Christmas Eve, then I'll bake the pie. Then: Well, I really need to study my French, after all, October will be here in the wink of an eye, then I'll bake the pie. Then: Boy, I really need to do some yoga -- my muscles are killing me from all the cleaning. Then a shower, then some meditation. Then -- I was exhausted. I was like, No way on Earth am I going to bake this pie now. Hey! I'll just get up early tomorrow (that being today)... and then I collapsed in bed and went straight to sleep.

I even did the yoga while watching A Christmas Carol -- some serious holiday multi-tasking, since I usually listen to something really esoteric while doing yoga so that I can get my mind to another stratosphere. I couldn't even fit in a stupid holiday movie without doing something else at the same time. (And yes, I watched Rudolph while making the pie!) What happened to those glorious days of yesteryear when I could get everything done on time and could actually enjoy myself as I went along? Oh, wait, I had a spouse !!! Gosh, they come in so handy!! "Honey, could you do something for me..." "Oh, honey, as long as you're going out, could you..." "Honey, do you have time to..." "I know you're busy, honey, but could you..." And then presto-chango, Christmas Eve arrives right on time, the guests have all arrived on time, too; you all sit down and you look across the table at Honey, and miracle of miracles, everything's ready to go! Perfecto! But nowadays, it's just me. Anyway.

Okay, I hope that all of you who celebrate Christmas have a really splendid, splendid time of it!! Thanks for visiting, gang. And let's think of each other tonight when we're eating all that PIE!! Merry, merry; happy, happy!
