Why this photo of the Latin Quarter at night, you ask?
Well, the details are coming soon!! So stay glued to this lofty blog (I mean, more than you already do! I realize that's kind of a tall order -- to stay glued to this blog even more than you already do, but hey...)
Okay! I called my French tutor on Friday evening. It was my first time speaking with her in about a year. I had carefully planned out everything I was going to say to her (in French) before hand. When she said "hello?" I started in "en francais!" She has told me on numerous occasions that my accent is very good. (My vocabulary, not so very good!) So she thought I was some French person and she started rattling away in French and instantaneously, I was hopelessly lost! Well, I could understand about 50% of what she said, but I got so befuddled by this onslaught of rapid French that I lost track of everything I had planned so carefully to say!
Just to be clear, I do read French rather well. I understand about 80% of written French. it's just the conversation stuff that still really throws me. Here's hoping that all those French people I will be meeting and doing business with, will be more than happy to write down every single thing they want to say to me, and then when I've taken about 5 hours to formulate my reply, they will thrill to the authenticity of my accent!
We shall see, gang! onward!
