Getting There

Wow, last night, after 12 hours of working on the novel, with an hour-long writing teleseminar at lunch, and then an hour of yoga/meditating after dinner, I sat back down at the desk and took a look at what I got done yesterday and, for the first time, could actually see the end of this thing. It is on its way. Unbelievable. (Meaning the end of this new novel -- first draft.)

It's only been just shy of a year that I've been writing it, which is no big deal. For me, though, it's kind of a big deal, in that it usually only takes me a few months to write a novel, even a long one, like this one is. However, I first got the inspiration for this novel and began researching it, writing the notes for it, etc., 10 (yes, TEN) years ago. It took me that long to finally feel like the lives of these characters had become enough of a part of me that I could write about them as if they were real. (The novel takes place between 1916 and 1927. And, yes, I'm a lot older than you can probably imagine, but I'm not that old. Thank you very much.) So it's been a tall order all the way around. But it's almost done!

Which means... that I might actually be able to take care of my yard this year, unlike last summer, where weeds abounded and the backyard looked like Jungle Larry's Adventure Retreat. What have you. I might even be able to go to the movies again, maybe even out to eat once in awhile. And also, you know, do that "other stuff" that requires very little in the way of clothes, some wine, some atmospheric music, candles, etc., etc., that I am seriously chomping at the bit (as they say!) to get crackin' at... (don't you just love language?).

But speaking of movies... they are making me the Division Chair of a brand new category in this year's Film Festival which means I will have a TON of work to do with that all summer long. But I am very psyched about it. Filmmakers everywhere rejoice, especially those among you who work with minimal -- if any -- budgets, because I am coming to find YOU! Yay!

Meanwhile... back at it, around here. I leave you with a new play party announcement from Dark Lady in Portland, OR, and the list of nominees for the Orange Award. Thanks for visiting, gang!
