Well, okay!
Even though the reviews seemed unanimously thumb's down, the remake of The Women still made $10 million at the box office over the weekend (according to the Women In Film blog, at any rate).
That is all well and good. Yay. But... nothing beats the original, which was on Turner Classic Movies last night and I had just enough red wine on hand to enhance my movie-watching pleasure. ("Tippee Ki Yi Yay, Crystal!") Loyal readers of this lofty blog surely know by now that I know just about every word of dialogue in the original version of The Women. And to be honest, a lot of it still floors me. The dialogue and how it is used to both define characters and advance the plot is really just genius, even after nearly 70 years. Not to mention that a lot of it is just genuinely funny.
What, with a little wine, with my electricity at last restored and with everything once again right in my world, how could I not feel sweetly giddy about it all? If only for an evening... And I got some ironing done while watching the movie, to boot.
Now it's back to real life around here. My yard is an absolute mess, thanks to Hurricane Ike. And I have tiny little grass-seedlings out there struggling to become a bonafide lawn. They need air! They need debris removed from their tiny faces so that they can bask in the sun! So I have a lot of work to do out there today, gang. Gotta get crackin!
See ya, though, and thanks for visiting!
