Life Goes On

Yes, life goes on... and I don't mean in the John Cougar Mellancamp sense, i.e., long after the thrill of living is gone. Although, god knows, that's true for me much of the time.

No, what I mean for now is that the typing continues at a gallop -- I am really and truly almost done with the book. And as usual, I found time to watch yet another silent movie, this time The Mating Call (1928). [ "A WWI vet takes on the KKK when he loses his wife to a womanizing Klansman." -- Plot outline from IMBD.com]

I don't know, it was certainly very interesting. It was your basic  romance -- you know: infidelities; love; war; adultery; threats of divorce; violence; suicide; murder; going to Ellis Island to find a poor immigrant to marry so that she can gratefully run your farm; the KKK; forced whippings while tied to a cross; cross burning; and of course, full female nudity (complete with black pubic hair) -- you know the kind of nudity I mean: your nubile immigrant bride, swimming totally naked at night in the stream behind your house while local Klansmen armed with shotguns are running all over your property... Just the basic happily ever after stuff.

I don't know why most people don't like to watch silent movies. They really were awesome. Funny, romantic, devastating, startling. The works. People who know me really well (of which there are perhaps 2), know that I really, really wish I had lived & worked in Hollywood during the Silent Era. Especially before personal income tax was enacted.

Well, okay, this template is acting up something fierce so before I lose the entire post, I'm signing off folks. Make it a great day!
