How Monday went

Well, we went from the ridiculous to the sublime. (See Sunday's entry to refresh your memory of my every move!) We kept in the overall Mexican vein, movie-wise, but this time we chose Like Water For Chocolate, probably one of the most romantic and erotic movies ever made, isn't it?

Perhaps nowhere near as romantic as Once Upon a Time In Mexico...ha ha. Anyway. I could not believe that the movie has already been out since 1993. It seems like I first saw it only a couple years ago. Where the hell did the time fucking go??? It is scary. That's fourteen years already -- gone -- in the wink of an eye. In fourteen years, I could have gone through high school almost five times. (I always use high school as the standard measure for 'time dragging unendurably awfully.' How is it that fourteen years can fly by so incredibly quickly in non-high school time? If I'd been in high school for the last fourteen years, I would have just gone the HST route and shot myself long ago.)

I digress.

After LWFC, in a sort of parallel move from Sunday night's Ferris Bueller's Day Off, it was Say Anything while I hung out on the bed with Fluffy. (John & Joan Cusack at, like 22 years old or something, but it was an okay movie to sit and stare at while I waited for the day to just end already...)

Okay! News from others. It goes like this:

May 7th's chat on realsmoflove.com will be devoted to ManLoveRomance members who have new books out. I will not be among them...but check it out:

May 7th at 7pm Mountain Time,
9 Eastern
chat for MANLOVE at www.RealmsofLove.com

Meanwhile, in Paris, Gala Fur announces something entirely in French that I couldn't 100% understand, but I think that if you visit her site and click on April's Billet d'humeur, you can read something about (or by)  Mirka Lugosi.

In San Francisco, Carol Queen announces a huge CSC fundraiser getting underway:

"
allow me to introduce the live Masturbate-a-Thon, one of
our two largest fundraisers, name and concept used by kind permission
of Good Vibrations. We'll gather on May 26 to masturbate (having
gathered pledges from others to do so); talk about masturbation;
webcast the event so people all over the place can watch and talk
about masturbation. We want to let the press know about the event,
but also people who can spread the word about it, attend as
participants or special guests, and generally help us make it
fabulous and successful. For more details about it see the attached
press release and/or visit http://www.masturbate-a-thon.com"

And last but not at all least in my book, Mark Pritchard is home from India. In keeping with the mariachi vein of Sunday/Monday's post, he sent this link to an interesting article about actual mariachi's in California.

A million years ago (oh, say, about nine and a half terms-of-high-schools ago), when I lived in the East Village (back when only poor people and artists & musicians (same thing, really)) lived there, my favorite restaurant used to be this Mexican place on E. 14th Street between 1st & 2nd Avenues. I don't remember now what it was called, but I loved that restaurant and I would go there all the time. And on Fridays & Saturdays, they used to have mariachis playing. The beautiful embroidered suits, the hats, etc. It was the first time I'd ever been exposed to mariachis. (I say that like it was a disease or something, when in fact it was a real delight.)

Yesterday was one of those mad, frustrating days where all I did was stare at the computer screen. Delete one word early on, then by the end of the day, add the same word back again. Two whole sentences stared at me all day. Nothing. Nada. Wasted day. I hope today will be more fruitful.
