I apologize...
To those of you who lost any sleep last night, tossing & turning in keen anticipation, waiting to see the promised photo of Fluffy's tail. Let me assure you that I toiled deep into the night, trying to fix the problem to no avail until this very minute.
So not!
Actually, all I did was re-boot the computer and, voila, problem solved. However, I had a lot of work to do on the book yesterday, so I didn't get back here until just now.
Regarding the new book, as long as you asked...oddly enough, I am still revising, revising, and, yes, revising some more the same darn section I was revising all through January. And it is still only chapter one! However, if you can't really nail your characters as likable, engaging, well-rounded, realistic, etc., in chapter one, then basically you are screwed and needn't bother to write the rest of the book. Oui! C'est vrai! (Translation: Yes! That's true!)
Needless to say, I am not finding some of my characters "likable, engaging, well-rounded, realistic, etc.", hence the ceaseless revisions. And, to make matters even less engaging, the characters are stuck in holiday traffic on the Long Island Expressway. I don't have a lot of room within which to nail their charm. But onward!
All I need do, really, is look at my bookshelves at moments like this; shelves, filled with short stories, novellas, and novels that I've written and anthologies that I've edited that all eventually went to press; books bought, contracts fulfilled. It's all I should need to reassure myself that eventually I always get past these frustrating spots and the work gets finished. But sometimes I forget.
Okay! Some quick news from another!
NYC-based writer M.M. DeVoe announces yet another story sale! (And she's a brand new mom, gang. It's astonishing how much some writers manage to get done.)
"Fickle Muses: an online journal of myth and legend has (by astonishing coincidence) just published a story I wrote in which I wove many links between reality and fantasy--I had fun breaking genre taboos as well as 'literary' ones. The link to their website can be found here: www.mmdevoe.com."
That's it for now, folks. I probably don't have to tell you what needs my attention yet again. Thanks for visiting! See ya!
